In the early morning hours of April 5th, 2022, the armed forces of Ukraine carried out a Uragan rocket attack on the civilian center of Donetsk. The attack destroyed several homes and sent an 11-year-old girl to the hospital with a brain injury.

Dmitry, the owner of one of the homes on Murayova Street in Leninsky district, said the attack happened around 2:30 am while everyone was sleeping. He said that there is no military facility anywhere nearby to justify the attack. When asked why he thought Ukraine hit a civilian neighborhood, Dmitry replied, "Just to kill us. It's genocide."

Another resident named Sergei was burying his dog when he was approached by PL News Today war reporter Patrick Lancaster. Sergei told Lancaster that he has a dump truck and would use it to help his neighbors rebuild their homes.

He said that Ukrainian Nazis were responsible for the attack. "Pure Nazis. It is true and no one is trying to hide it", he added.

A woman who preferred not to be identified by name told PL News that she didn't know how her family survived "because the destruction is massive." The strike caused her home to collapse on her, her husband and their 7-year-old son. The family couldn't get out through the front door, but managed to escape through a window.

The resident said that the attack destroyed everything her family owned. She has no relatives in the area to turn to for help and no resources to rebuild her house. She appealed to the public for assistance. Unfortunately, western sanctions have cut off most avenues for the international community to send financial donations directly to the people of Donbass.

When asked about where the shelling came from, the resident became visibly uncomfortable. She said she was afraid to talk about the actions of the Ukrainian military because she believes they monitor media reports. She fears that they might locate her and carry out further punishment. The woman said she felt like she needed to cry, but nothing could come out because she was suffering from shock.

In 1977, Protocol I was added to the Geneva Conventions. This amendment prohibits military attacks on civilians and their homes, whether deliberate or indiscriminate.

The targeting of civilian homes in Donbass by the Ukrainian military constitutes war crimes. Despite these attacks having occurred for 8 years straight at the expense of thousands of civilian lives, the voices of people of Donbass are rarely heard or acknowledged by the international community.

Unfortunately, the West turns a blind eye to the mass murder of civilians committed by their own allies.
